Kurdistan Region president Massoud Barzani said the Iraqi government must oblige to its commitments in the ongoing battle against ISIL militants across the country.
On Wednesday, President Barzani met with foreign delegates and diplomats in Salahuddin, including those from the US, the UK, Germany, France and many more. He acknowledged all the countries that have supported Kurds in their fight against the ISIL militants and hoped their humanitarian and military support will continue in the future.
During the meeting, Barzani said that ISIL insurgents don’t have any regard to the laws, human rights or the protection of civilians, however Peshmerga forces have shown throughout history that they don’t violate human rights.
“In recent weeks, Peshmerga forces have been winning against Islamic State. Peshmerga are the main factor in preventing IS taking complete control of the Nineveh Valley and attaching them to Syrian regions under insurgents’ control’, said Barzani.
Mr Barzani also said that even though the Kurds have a lot of question over the new Iraqi government, they want to participate in the new cabinet so that Baghdad can support Peshmerga in fighting the extremist group.
