Masrour Barzani: “The Kurdistan region is fighting ISIS and stand on the front line against the organization on behalf of the world”

On Tuesday, Masrour Barzani was officially presented to the European Parliament where he gave a speech about the current situation in the Kurdistan Region, IS attacks in northern Iraq and Syrian Kurdistan, and especially the besieged city of Kobani.

The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC), Masrour Barzani, said during a speech at the EU Parliament that the entire region is a victim of the Islamic State terrorist organisation as they continue to battle against the militants “on behalf of the rest of the world”.

Mr Barzani said, "We all are today victims of ISIS, now that the region is exposed to the threat of terrorists, and we must all confront them, the international community should decide to confront the terrorists to provide protection of civilians, Peshmerga require heavy weapons to confront this terrorist organization that has control of destructive arsenal."

“The Kurdistan region is fighting ISIS and stand on the front line against the organization on behalf of the world, there are thousands of foreigners in the ranks of the terrorist organization, and these aliens pose no threat to us alone, but they pose threats to Europe and the world, we are fighting to protect you. Assistance from Great Britain, France and Germany and Europe and the world has been received with greatest appreciation but military aid provided by the international community is not the only aspiration” Mr Barzani said.

Barzani called on the European Union and the international community to take firm action to prevent the flow of foreign fighters into the ranks of ISIS reduce the financial aid regulation, stating that ISIS daily receives millions of dollars from the oil trade, taking tribute from the natives by force.

And the role of the Iraqi Government, the Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council said Baghdad is pressing the world to provide heavy weapons, although armed Peshmerga have a constitutional right to the territory, and illegally blocked by the Iraqi Government which has imposed an economic blockade to Kurdistan, and cut civil staff salaries, although Peshmerga aims to defend Iraq, and as such violates all of its constitutional and humanitarian standards
