Hawrami: We are working towards achieving self-determination

 

Hemin Hawrami, head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s foreign relations office, received a UN delegation in Erbil that consisted of George Boston, the deputy special representative of the Secretary General of the United Nations to Iraq and Sokol Kondi, head of UNAMI in Kurdistan.

During the meeting, which was attended by a number of the KDP’s FRO office members, the parties discussed the current military and political situation in Kurdistan, and ongoing disputes between Baghdad and Erbil.

Mr Hawrami stressed the need for the UN to continue supporting refugees and displaced persons in Iraq and Kurdistan who have been forced to flee their homes due to recent conflict by terrorist acts committed against them by terrorist organization Islamic State. He also noted on the latest victories achieved by Kurdish Peshmerga.

Negotiations between Erbil and Baghdad and problem-solving issues between the parties was another focus of the meeting, where Mr Hawrami said tensions must be eased in accordance according to the constitution and the conventions.

The UN delegation hailed the victories of Peshmerga in the war against IS militants and praised the valor of the Kurdish forces to defend freedom and democracy.
