International electoral observers praise KDP on democratic expansion in Kurdistan

Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Head of Foreign Relations Office Hemin Hawrami received a delegation from The Committee of 0pen Democracy at a meeting for talks on the democratic climate in the region.

 

The CDO on two previous occasions have observed legislative elections in the Kurdistan Region and expressed their delight over a long-period of nationwide democratic expansion.

 

Mr Brian Mefford Executive Director of CDO said, “We are very impressed by the situation in Kurdistan and Kurdish people that in the present time they are fighting against terrorism and practicing democratic principle. We see this as positive progress and an astonishing achievement for Massoud Barzani, a democratically elected president of the region.”

 

Mr Hawrami thanked the CDO for their support and words of praise before speaking of the aims of the KDP that it is to promote democracy and implement fundamental institutions for the international recognition.

 

He said, “We have proved to the international community that Kurdistan is a nation of tolerance and peaceful coexistence between numerous ethnicities and religious bands, including harbouring hundreds of thousands refugees who gave fleed from other parts of Iraq and Syria and now they are living here unobtrusively to practice their ethnical and religious rights.”

 

The meeting concluded with Mr Hawrami requesting continued support and observation of future elections in Kurdistan.
