Germany’s Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen stressed her government will not allow the Kurds to stand alone and will support them and the Peshmerga in their war against terrorists.
Ms Leyen made her comments in an exclusive interview with Bass news after meeting the President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani. She said the Peshmerga forces are, “an example for the entire world to see that terrorists can be defeated,” adding Germany will continue providing military and humanitarian assistance to the Kurds and the regional government (KRG) as they accommodate a large number of refugees.
“Germany will continue to train and provide military assistance to the Kurdish Peshmerga. We will not stand by and watch them battle alone.” Ms Leyen concluded.
