The President of the Kurdistan Region, Massoud Barzani, arrived in Austria on Friday where he met with President Heinz Fischer for talks focusing on bilateral ties, political and economic developments in the region.
The Austrian president confirmed that his country would continue to provide support and humanitarian assistance to Kurdistan Region with relation to the thousands of internally displaced civilians, while praising the courage of Peshmerga forces in successfully pushing back the Islamic State terrorists.
Mr Barzani described their meeting as “positive” and that the two sides encourage relations for over 30 years.

Mr Barzani left Erbil on February 5 to begin aEuropean tour which started in Germany where he participated in the global security conference in where he held meetings with a number of world leaders and officials, including with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, Norway’s Foreign Minister Børge Brende, Germany’s Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen, Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian.
