The Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region Nechirvan Barzani received an Iranian delegation led by Rostam Ghasemi, head of the Iran-Iraq trade mission and included Manuchehir Ardistani, advisor to Iran’s oil minister and Azizullah Rafzani, head of Iran’s national gas company for talks on bolstering ties between the two sides, the economic climate, energy and infrastructure.
A Kurdistan Regional Government official said that negotiations were over the route of a pipeline that would carry Iranian gas, and details of the oil refining deal.
Iran’s ambassador to Baghdad also joined the meetings on Thursday.
The two sides spoke of the current crisis across northern Iraq relating to the ongoing war against extremists. Mr Ghasemi reiterated Iran’s support for the Kurdistan Region as Peshmerga forces continue to record victories in recapturing towns.
