The President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani has delivered a message to the people of Kurdistan to commemorate the beginning of the Kurdistan uprising in 1991, praising the sacrifices made to attain freedom for the region.
Mr Barzani noted the significance of the anniversary of the uprising at a time when the Kurdistan region is at war against Islamic State militants, which he said indicated the people of Kurdistan’s respect for the lives lost in the 1991 uprising.
He said, “Our uprising is an example for solidarity and uprising against prejudice and brutality to our nation,”
“We have never failed against our enemies, but a lack of solidarity can lead to disturbing consequences. We have demonstrated and proved that we can achieve our ambitions when we are unified. We succeeded in the 1991 uprising because we were unified.”
Mr Barzani commented on the current situation in the region, saying, “We are going through a very sensitive and difficult situation.
While fighting the terrorists, unity and solidarity is essential in Kurdistan to defend our accomplishments.”
