President Barzani’s statement on the reconstruction of Kobani

Kurdistan Region President Massoud Barzani has released an official statement via the office of his presidency to call upon all the Kurds and the world to help rebuild the city of Kobani in Syria.

The official statement reads:

“In the name of God, the Beneficial, the most Merciful.

Due to the courage of Peshmerga forces, their sacrifices and of other Kurdish fighters, the city of Kobani did not fall into the hands of the terrorists, and the enemy was defeated.

As a result of the barbaric onslaught of Islamic State terrorists against Kobani, thousands of families fled the city and abandoned their homes and proprieties. The majority of Kobani is now destroyed.

The terrorists believed that by destroying Kobani they would end the Kurds, their dreams and normal life in the city, but the valor and durability of our brothers and sisters did not let them fulfill the terrorists’ ambitions.

After we liberated the city, it should indicate the start of a new phase for the reinstatement of life, and it should assume our fellow Kurds can return home with their heads held high.

Helping in the reconstruction of Kobane is a national duty of all Kurds. Therefore, I would like to ask the Kurdish people and civil society, the media and charity foundations from every corner of this world to take part in helping the destitute people and rebuild the city.

The conspiracy of the enemy has failed, and following the liberation of the city, life will resume as soon as possible. We all must help rebuild the city and help displaced families return to Kobane with honor.

Our hearts and thoughts were with the people and Kurdish fighters in Kobane when the battle was underway in the city.

Sending the Peshmerga to this beloved city was our duty and honor, our national duty to help our brothers and sisters from this part of Kurdistan.”
