Hawrami receives Canadian ambassadorial delegation for Kurdistan security talks

Hemin Hawrami expressed thanks on behalf of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's leadership council to the government of Canada for their military and humanitarian support toward the region.

The Head of KDP's Foreign Relations Office, Mr Hawrami received the Canadian Deputy Ambassador to Iraq, Robert Bissett, Iraq and Khader Sobyhat Head of Trade Commissioner, at a meeting that focused on the latest political aspects of the Kurdistan Region. Mr Bissett asserted his gratitude to the Kurdish people and Peshmerga forces for their courageous efforts in defending their honour and fighting terrorists on "behalf of the free world" and Canada views Kurdistan as an "admirable culture of tolerance and it looks forward to working more closely with the region."

Mr Bissett mentioned that his government will extend its mandate to providing further armament to Peshmerga forces as they too are "concerned" about the number of rising terrorists joining Islamic State from Canada.

Mr Hawrami mentioned how IS has become weaker thanks to the "great job" Kurdish Peshmerga has done in consistently battling against them. He believes this will help communities bond and hopes it will encourage Iraqi premier Haidar al-Abadi's efforts of national reconciliation.
