Canada's Prime Minister Stephen Harper travelled to Erbil to meet President Massoud Barzani for talks on military aid and the regional war against Islamic State militants.
Accompanied by his delegation consisting of Defence Minister Jason Kenney and Canadian Ambassador to Iraq Bruce Saccomani, PM Harper received a warm welcome in Erbil by President Barzani and there was an honour guard of Peshmerga fighters and a swarm of Kurdish media, which carried the event, live on television.
During their meeting, Mr Barzani thanked the Canadian government for their support in military operations against terrorists, describing the success of a coordination with Canada as "very good" and stated, "the people of Kurdistan will never forget [Canadian] support."
Canada has a tactical team of military advisors in the Kurdistan region and are constantly providing security advice to Kurdish Peshmerga.
Mr Harper commended the Kurdistan Region's military victories against ISIS terrorists and stressed that the support for the Kurdistan Region by the international community will continue as the terrorists of the Islamic State pose a great threat to the entire world.
