The president of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, Yordan Nihrizov, declared his support for a referendum on Kurdistan state-independence during a meeting with Hemin Hawrami, Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Head of Foreign Relations Office.
Mr Hawrami welcomed Mr Nihrizov and his accompanying delegation – Nikolay Nikilov, vice-president of BSDP, Dr Luben Yotzov, Head of Assessment Project Office, Zalati Jalev, former General Ambassador and Military Adviser at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry – who are visiting for talks on the current political and military situation developing in the Kurdistan region.
A key aspect of their discussions focused on the Peshmerga’s battle against Islamic State militants where Mr Nihrizov expressed his gratitude for the heroic efforts they have shown on the front lines “fighting the most barbaric terrorists organisation the world has ever seen on behalf of the free world,”
Mr Hawrami requested continuous military support from the Bulgarian government for Kurdistan in particular the Peshmerga forces in aspects of training and the supply of armaments.
The delegation praised the Kurdistan government and expressed their gratitude as for hosting up to two million refugees - from neighbouring Syria and Iraq who were forced to flee their homes as a result of recent conflict - while at the same time being under economic sanctions by the Iraqi central government.
On the topic of Kurdish referendum for an independent Kurdistan state, the delegates reiterated their support for an act that will “allow the Kurdish people to determine their future,” adding “we are astonished by the developments of economic development and social progress in Kurdistan and it will be an honour for us to provide support for a nation that is able to provide security, prosperity and coexistence in a democratic way to its people.”
