President Barzani receives new Kuwaiti Consul to Kurdistan

President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani received Mr Omar Ahmed al-Kandari, the new Kuwaiti consul to Kurdistan at a meeting to emphasise on diplomatic ties between the two sides and on current political developments.

Mr Al Kandari conveyed the greetings and well-wishes from His Highness the Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber and his respect to President Barzani toward the people of Kurdistan for the sacrifices they have made to achieve their freedom.

He also praised the President Barzani's role and the courage of Peshmerga forces in fighting terrorism, highlighting at the same time historical relations and ties of friendship between the people of Kurdistan and Kuwait, noting that the opening of the Kuwaiti consulate in Erbil is the beginning of a new phase in strengthening relations between the two parties. Mr al-Khandari said his country is ready to support the Kurdistan Region.

In contrast, President Barzani expressed his pleasure at the opening of the Kuwaiti consulate in Erbil and the expansion of relations between the two parties. It was mentioned at their meeting that Kurdistan acknowledges the injustices suffered by the people of Kuwait under the former Baathist regime of Iraq, stressing that Kurds will not be a part of sectarian conflict in the region
