Kurdistan president condemns latest Isis attack on Kobane

President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani has condemned the latest attacks on Kurdish Syrian town of Kobane by Islamic State terrorist group, calling on for international assistance to stand by Kobane in a statement issued on Thursday, asking for reinforcement from the US-led coalition for Kurdish fighters in their battle against Isis.

“The murderous terrorists once again launched an attack on our sisters and brothers in Kobane, killed and injured a number of civilians,” Barzani said.

He described the ISIS attack as “inhumane and cruel.” The Kurdistan Regional Government is ready to support the Kurds in Kobane and provide aid to the rest of Rojava, Barzani added.

On Thursday Isis detonated car bombs and launched an assault. Kurdish media say at least 50 civilians have been killed, including 20 in a nearby village.

Due to the intensity of the combat, some residents have taken up arms to defend themselves. The number of Isis attackers was unknown.

Kurdish forces backed by US-led air strikes waged a four-month battle to repel the group, finally securing the town in January.
