The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region and Head of Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani received a delegation from the US House of Representatives led by Robert Whitman, chairman of the Preparatory Military Committee and a number of security advisors for talks on the current developments in the Kurdistan Region.
The delegation initially expressed their appreciation toward Kurdish Peshmerga forces for the role they have played in the fight against Islamic State. Mr Whitman said the United States highly glorifies the Peshmerga in recapturing lost ground and protecting borders. He also reiterated the value of friendship between the US and Kurdistan, expressing their support toward the people of the region.
For his part, Mr Barzani gave his thanks to the US for their military assistance and humanitarian support, adding that the coalition should provide a more substantial level of armaments in order to effectively wipe out terrorists from the region as Peshmerga forces are fighting Isis on behalf of the free world.
In another aspect of the meeting, the number of martyrs and wounded who were killed during the war were mentioned and it was stressed that the lack of weapons and equipment has caused these fatalities, and Mr Barzani declared that the government in Iraq should live up to constitutional commitments.
