President Barzani welcomes US Charge d'Affaires in Iraq

On Saturday, July 19, 2025, President Masoud Barzani welcomed Ambassador Steven Fagin, the Charge d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, at his residence in Salahaddin. The meeting also included Mr. Steven Bittner, the US Consul General in Erbil.

During the discussions, Ambassador Fagin emphasized the significant role of the Kurdistan Region in promoting stability within Iraq and the broader region, reiterating the United States' support for a strong Kurdistan Region.

The conversation also covered the ongoing peace process in Türkiye and the situation in Syria. Ambassador Fagin commended President Barzani for his efforts in supporting the peace initiative in Türkiye and for fostering unity among Kurdish parties in Syria. In response, President Barzani expressed that the peace process in Türkiye benefits all parties involved and the region as a whole, affirming his commitment to support the initiative and contribute to its success.

Additionally, the two sides addressed the formation of the tenth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the relationship between the KRG and the Federal Government of Iraq. The US delegation conveyed that the United States welcomes the recent agreement between the two governments regarding salaries and financial entitlements.
