Hemin Hawrami received Jan Kubis, Special Representative for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) to discuss developments in the Kurdistan Region and the refugee crisis where IDPs have taken shelter from northern Iraq.
Mr Kubis expressed UN appreciation for the KRG to take in large numbers of IDPs from areas affected by the fighting against ISIS terrorists; he said the UN would continue to closely cooperate with authorities to attend to the needs of the hundreds of thousands of IDPs from other parts of Iraq. He said, “we at the UN are thankful for the KRG’s efforts in safeguarding the people of Kurdistan at this difficult time.”
The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office, Mr Hawrami said he was grateful toward the advanced work they conduct helping with dealing the huge number of refugees at a time when the central government in Iraq slashed the Kurdistan budget.
Mr Kubis added UNAMI will use all available methods to assist the KRG in dealing with the current crisis. On current political and presidential election of Kurdistan Regional Presidency, the United Nations urges all participating members of the coalition government to reach a political consensus on this important issue.
Mr Hawrami highlighted the improvisations the KDP has made to bring together a national unity in restricting its options for the sake of unifying other political parties.
