By official invitation from the European Council on Foreign Relations and the Al-Sharq Forum, a delegation from the Kurdistan Democratic Party headed by Hemin Hawrami, head of KDP Foreign Relations Office, and Sherko Habeb, head of Communications Department and a member of the Office participated in a conference which discussed the latest political developments in the Kurdistan Region and relations with neighbouring countries.

former prime minister and current President Erdogan and the policy of the Kurdish optimist, we could not have achieved what we have right now in the relationship between the Kurdistan Region and Turkey. So, when we say that it was Turkey, who has changed towards Iraqi Kurdistan."

Reasonable politics and its implication for KRG-Turkey relationship.

In the relationship between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and Turkey, there are two main variables and one of them is the Turkish perception, Turkish relations with the Iraqi Kurds, with the Iraqi Kurdistan region that perceives the interest of Turkey in this relationship with the KRG and also the other variable is the Turkish policy, the Kurdish issue in other parts of the countries in the Middle East. So, these two variables are very important for that relationship between the KRG and for Turkey and so that is why based on these two variables and analysing it according to the context, timing sequence and the ratio of these two variables, I would like to make some points on this issue.

whatever has been done so far that is it that is all the openness that we should stick to. We do believe that between that argument that this is everything and that argument from the PKK to say that that is nothing, we do believe that a few steps have been taken in the right direction and those few steps need support from all of us.

security issue but we are ready to be part of any peaceful solution and we have also sent messages to PKK publicly and privately that PKK by statements, by killing police, by implementary and provocative statements they are undermining HDP, they are undermining Ocalan, but here I would like to say that we are not dictating Turkish foreign policy. PKK’s presence in our area, they have been there since 1984. Many military operations were there since 1984, but we do not endorse, we do not support the PKK position. I would like to make this point; we do not want Iraqi Kurdistan Region to be used as a stage for this political, geopolitical manoeuvre. We want Kurdistan Region relations with Turkey to be separated from the relationship between PKK and Turkey.

As for the Kurdish issue in Syria, we do believe that it will be in the best interest of Turkey to differentiate between what is there for the Kurds in Syria or what is their policy towards PYD because this is the question: if they are against PYD but the policy of Turkey must be clear what is the policy toward the Kurdish issue in Syria, so with these notes, I will end up and I am ready for any questions later.
