Head of the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Foreign Relations Office, Hemin Hawrami, welcomed the British Consul General to Kurdistan, Angus Mckee.
Hawrami spoke on the latest political and military developments in the region, and spoke on the differences between the Kurdish parties. Hawrami also explained the process behind the Presidency, and how the KDP emphaises that the people of Kurdistan are the foundation to resolve differences and political problems.
He stressed on the importance and sensitivity of the current stage in Kurdistan, and the necessity of reconciliation and mutual understanding and dialogue between all the parties. He explained that the electoral commission cannot hold elections for the time being, and the constitution committee has not finished drafting the constitution. For these reasons, the KDP’s suggestion is that the President should remain in place up until the parliament session has been completed.
Hawrami also condemned the Turkish bombing, and called upon the Kurdistan Workers Party to leave civilian inhabited areas, and insisted on the Turkish government and the PKK to open peace negotiations.
The British Consul stressed his country’s continued support for Kurdistan in its war against ISIS, and supports the reconciliation between political parties.
