Hawrami: The KDP is committed to the people’s democratic right in electing their president

Hemin Hawrami received the acting Consul-General of Jordan in Kurdistan Walid Kazaz at a meeting to discuss the current impasse over the disputed presidency of the region and other aspects of political developments.

Mr Hawrami, the head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office (KDP FRO) began by expressing appreciation toward His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people for their support of the Kurds in the ongoing battle against ISIL extremists.

He emphasised that the KDP prefers the people to choose their president rather than through a factional parliamentary vote as this ensures a democratically elected leader.

For his part, Mr Kazaz praised the democratic principles adopted by the KDP and Peshmerga valiantly countering terrorism. He also highlighted the positive relations between President Massiud Barzani and HM King Abdullah II.
