Hemin Hawrami received Germany's new Consul General in Kurdistan Mark Aashahurn at a meeting for talks on the political spectrum across the region.
The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office began by congratulating the Mr Aashahurn on the occasion of his new duty in Kurdistan and wished him success in his work, stressing mutual party support and expressed thanks on behalf of the KDP leadership to the German government and people for supporting Kurdistan in the face of terrorism.
Mr Hawrami then pointed to the political and military situation and the ongoing debates over the presidency where he iterated that while the KDP adheres to the parliamentary system, but prefers an election of the president to be chosen by the public vote.
The two sides exchanged views on the current crisis in Iraq and relations between Erbil and Baghdad focusing on oil disputes and civil salary suspensions.
The German Consul General praised the courage and steadfastness of the Peshmerga and people of Kurdistan, and pointed to the national and religious coexistence, stability and security, and the war against terrorism has made Kurdistan the front line for the defence of the free world.
