President Barzani receives US Ambassador to Iraq

President Massoud Barzani, on Sunday received the Ambassador of the United States to Iraq, Stuart Jones and his accompanying delegation for talks on military and security developments in the Kurdistan Region.

At the meeting, Ambassador Jones congratulated President Barzani and the Kurdistan Peshmerga forces for their victories in Kirkuk, offering condolences to the martyrs' families and wished speedy recovery to the wounded.

The two sides also discussed the military support for the Peshmerga forces and field conditions in the fronts of confrontation against terrorist organisation ISIS in Iraq and Syria as well as ways to fight and eradicate terrorism.

In another aspect of the meeting, the political developments in the region, including Russian participation in the war against terrorism and air raids on nests of terrorists were talked about where President Barzani stressed that the war against terrorists ISIS in Syria and Iraq needs a strong front in which all the forces involved to root out terrorism in the region.

President Barzani stressed the need for an international consensus to overthrow ISIS and put aside differences with neighbouring countries to focus on the fight against ISIS because it is a threat to everyone.

The parties also stressed on the relations between the provincial government and the federal government in Baghdad, where several domestic issues are still outstanding.
