President Barzani welcomed Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy

President Masoud Barzani received Ambassador Steven Fagin, Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy to Iraq, on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, in Salahaddin. The meeting was also attended by Ms. Wendy Green, US Consul General in Erbil.

During the discussions, the parties exchanged views on recent events and developments in the region, focusing on relations between Erbil and Baghdad, the resumption of oil exports, and support for US oil companies that have signed agreements with the Kurdistan Regional Government in accordance with the constitution and law. Both sides emphasized the importance of addressing salary and financial dues to the region, agreeing that citizens' salaries should not be entangled in political disputes or conflicts.

The meeting also highlighted the need to strengthen bilateral relations between the Kurdistan Region and the United States. Additional topics covered included the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections, the situation in Syria, progress in the reform process within the Ministry of Peshmerga, and ongoing positive steps toward forming the new government in the Kurdistan Region.
