During the meeting, they discussed the historic ties between the Assyrian people and the people of Kurdistan. President Barzani reaffirmed that the Assyrian community, along with all other components of Kurdistan, are indigenous peoples of the land, and that their destiny is bound together. He stressed that in both the past and the future, they live side by side in freedom and dignity.
President Barzani also emphasized that all institutions and agencies in the Kurdistan Region will continue to support all displaced persons who have sought refuge and are now residing in Kurdistan, and that they must feel a sense of belonging, coexistence, peace, stability, and a promising future in the Kurdistan Region.
For their part, the visiting delegation expressed their delight at meeting President Barzani and praised the progress achieved in the Kurdistan Region. They noted that they now feel a deep happiness in considering Kurdistan their homeland, where they and their families do not feel different from the rest of the people of Kurdistan.
