KDP chief says the party has been striving for the people’s freedom since its founding

The Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Political Bureau Chief Fadil Mirani says freedom for the people of Kurdistan has been the biggest long-standing principle of the party and it is striving to accomplish this objective since its founding.

His comments came during a meeting with the Italian Consul General to Erbil Carmelo Vekaro, adding that the KDP is also eliminating injustice in the interests of the people of Kurdistan.

Mr Mirani later pointed to the stage after the recent elections in Kurdistan, where he said they had hoped for four years of stability, but encountered substantial problems, including war against the Islamic State terrorist organisation, the suspension of public sector salaries by the Iraqi government and oil budget disputes, which is causing an economic crisis in the region, and some of the events that occurred in the Sulaymaniyah area

For his part, the Italian consul expressed his thanks for the meeting and took the opportunity to praise the courage of the Peshmerga in the defence of democracy in the war against IS while wishing stability and progress for Kurdistan.
