Mirani and McKee discuss the latest political and military developments in Kurdistan

During a meeting with Angus McKee the British Consul General to Kurdistan, Fadhil Mirani, Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Political Bureau said at the present stage Kurdistan is experiencing difficulties and the people need to stand firm to safeguard the common interests and the unity of the Kurds.

Mr Mirani later pointed to the stage after the recent elections in Kurdistan, where he said they had hoped for four years of stability, but encountered substantial problems, including war against the Islamic State terrorist organisation, the suspension of public sector salaries by the Iraqi government and oil budget disputes, which is causing an economic crisis in the region, and some of the events that occurred in the Sulaymaniyah area.

For his part, the British Consul said his country is ready to provide support to Kurdistan and praised the valiant Peshmerga forces and the wisdom of the Kurdish political leadership.
