President Barzani: Sinjar important to us because it has become a symbol of the sufferings of the Kurdish people

President Barzani declares victory and announces liberation of Sinjar

President of Kurdistan Region Massoud Barzani  who has led the battle fronts in the Sinjar area announce the liberation of the strategic town, he said during a press conference.

President Barzani declared victory and gave special thanks to Kurdistan peshmarga forces and the coalition forces that have supported the Peshmerga’s operation –dubbed Operation Free Sinjar - with airstrikes against IS bases which has controlled Sinjar for over a year.

He acclaimed victory and congratulated the people of Kurdistan notably to the Yazidi communities and said: “It’s been liberated by the blood of martyrs,”

“People of Kurdistan, we promised you that we will liberate Sinjar, Here we are delivering our promise. We reiterate, we here to reassure Yazidis they are not alone, we are with them, not forgetting our Yazidi sisters who can how hold their heads high,” Sinjar important to us because it has become a symbol of the sufferings of the Kurdish people and it’s a part of Kurdistan’  he added.

“We thank the international coalition forces who have supported us in the liberations process and all those who took part in the liberation process, thank you all."

During his press conference, Mr Barzani told reports that the liberation of Sinjar will have a significant impact on liberating Mosul saying that Sinjar now carries symbolic figure of sufferings of Kurdish people,” later addressing anyone who oppresses Kurdish people will bear the same level of retaliation.
