During a meeting to discuss the political and economic situation in the Kurdistan region, Fadil Mirani, the Secretary of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s Political Bureau, offered the appreciation to Iran for their support via the Consul General to Suleymania, Sadoula Masoudyan.
Mr Mirani focused on the problems that are facing the region in terms of the economic crisis, rising tensions with the central government in Baghdad and the military developments where Peshmerga forces are combatting against terrorist organisation Islamic State.
Public sector salaries are still suspended despite promises from the Iraqi government to release funds and on-going talks to resolve the oil and gas disputes with the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Mr Mirani stressed that the KDP prefers to find solutions to political issues through dialogue and emphasised that there needs to be an arrangement to unify Kurdish parties. He later touched on the successes achieved by Peshmerga forces in forcing Islamic State out of strategic towns, most recently in Sinjar, which is now liberated after a triumphant campaign led by President Massoud Barzani.
