Kurdistan region President Massoud Barzani led tributes to Danielle Mitterrand at a ceremony held in capital Erbil and said Kurds owe gratitude to the wife of former late French president, Francois Mitterrand.
Before the ceremony took place, Mr Barzani inaugurated an exhibition which displays photographs of the historical stages of the life of Mitterrand before delivering a speech in which he referred to the role of France in supporting the people of Kurdistan, declaring her memory will remain immortal.
The Kurdistan president noted that relations between Kurdistan and France are “historical” and Kurds look to the French as “friends and supporters” while renewing his condolences for the victims’ families for the recent terrorist attacks in Paris.
He added, “Terrorists are the enemies of the world and they will be defeated while we united against them.”
