Masrour Barzani says being a competent neighbour is best solution to Erbil-Baghdad tensions

The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region and Head of Security Council (KRSC), Masrour Barzani received the Ambassador of Norway in Jordan and Iraq, Ms Sissel Breieand and her accompanying delegation at a meeting to discuss the latest political and military developments.

The visiting delegation expressed their congratulatory messages for the recent liberation of Sinjar by Kurdish forces and praised Peshmerga for their continuous victories against terrorist organisation Islamic State. Mr Barzani noted that the success of Peshmerga forces is reliant on greater support from the international community and cooperation of allies supplying military armament. He stressed the international threat Islamic State poses and urged for a unified global effort against the militants.

Mr Barzani said, in another aspect of the meeting, that the best solution to resolving issues with the central government in Baghdad is if the Kurdistan region becomes a competent neighbour, as both sides conversed on using dialogue to solve problems. He made reference to the financial situation adding that such issues are becoming heavy obstacles and causing obstruction to efforts of progressive developments.
