The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office, Hemin Hawrami, expressed praise for France's role in eliminating the terrorist organisation Islamic State (IS) from parts of northern Iraq and helping the Kurdistan region during its offensives against extremism.
Mr Hawrami made his comments after meeting the French Consul General to Erbil, Alain Guepratte, and the Deputy Consul General, Alexander Pique, for talks on the political aspects and military situation in Kurdistan.
On behalf of the KDP, Mr Hawrami conveyed the appreciation toward the French government and the people for their understanding and aiding of the Kurds. The current developments in Syria were also subjects they touched on in the meeting.
For their parts, the French delegation praised the valour of Peshmerga in combatting IS militants and defending democracy, highlighting the courage of President Massoud Barzani for liberating Sinjar.
The meeting concluded with Mr Hawrami pointing out the transparent position of the KDP that it prefers to resolve all political differences through dialogue and the consideration of the interests of Kurdish people, adding that Kurdistan cannot sacrifice what it has fought for the sake of any party while mentioning that the Gorran (Change) Movement, in the past two years, could not reconcile its commitments.
