LIBG confirms its support for Kurdistan and Peshmerga forces

The Head of Communications and Media at the Kurdistan Democratic Party's Foreign Relations Office, Sherko Habeb, met the Chair of Liberal International British Group and former Member of European Parliament, Dr Phil Bennion, in London for talks on the current political and military situation in the Kurdistan region.

They exchanged views on considerable extent including the Sinjar liberation operation and Kurdish Peshmerga who are actively combating militants belonging to the so-called Islamic State, after they had taken large swathes of ground initially lost by the Iraqi army.

While the Peshmerga are currently the only force with ground troops and not receiving armaments directly, Dr Bennion said he could raise the subject of arming Peshmerga forces without deviation in parliamentary sessions and will use his position as the Chair of LIBG to encourage European government to support this issue.

Mr Habeb expressed his thanks toward the support the Kurdistan region has received and for all efforts made by the LIBG.

Both sides gave expositions on disputes between the KRG and Baghdad, surrounding the oil and civil servant salary crisis and relations with neighbouring countries including Turkey and how they can assist with the defeat and eradication of IS.

Taking part in the meeting were by Kamal Amedi, member of the KDP's London branch and political advisor Paul E Reynolds where they conversed on a wide-range of regional issues and discussed prospects for improving cooperation to further strengthen mutual understanding
