President of Kurdistan Region receives Vice President of the European Parliament

Kurdistan region president Massoud Barzani received   the vice-president of the European Parliament, Richard Charnesca, for talks which focused on the current political and military developments.

Mr Charnesca anticipated the Kurdistan region needs more international support adding that Europe is looking closely at the reality of the situation to gain a better understanding in order to expand the horizons of aid, and will reflect on stability in the region; before moving on to express his admiration for the culture of peaceful coexistence, lauding the role of Mr Barzani and Peshmerga forces in commanding the battle against extremism.

Mr Barzani gave thanks to Mr Charnesca and the European Parliament, giving his own views on the impact of developments. He mentioned the struggle of the Kurdish people and the painful-era they experienced throughout the past year, and emphasised their steadfastness in order to gain freedom and protect national identity.

President Barzani touched on the brutality of terrorist organisation Islamic State and danger it poses to humanity, confirming that the proud people of Kurdistan and their Peshmerga troops that have managed to break the myth of IS and protect the “Christian brothers” and other religious and national components, describing the issue as a national and humanitarian duty.
