President Barzani thanked the ambassador and said the KDP’s success reflected the trust of the people of Kurdistan despite obstacles the party faced. He described the post‑election period as critical and called on all political forces to work seriously together to reform governance, implement the constitution, and learn from past mistakes. Barzani stressed that implementing the constitution is the central basis for negotiations on forming the next Iraqi government and reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has no veto against any person or party. What matters most, he said, is commitment to federalism as enshrined in the constitution and the enactment and implementation of constitution‑based legislation — notably the Federation Council Law and the Oil and Gas Law — as well as other pending laws.
On internal Kurdistan Region affairs, President Barzani noted the region had shown flexibility ahead of the elections and acknowledged that pre‑election arrangements may change; nevertheless, he emphasized keeping channels of dialogue open to address problems and differences. Concerning Kurdish unity in Baghdad, he said unity should be grounded in a shared conviction on the Kurdistan Region’s strategic issues, a commitment to federalism, and Baghdad’s full adherence to all constitutional provisions.
Both sides agreed on the importance of continuing and strengthening relations between Britain, the Kurdistan Region, and Iraq across all fields.
