The Middle East Peace and Security Forum Kicks Off in Duhok.

The Middle East Peace and Security Forum officially opened today in Duhok with the participation of a wide range of high-level leaders and distinguished guests. Among the prominent attendees were President Masoud Barzani, President Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, President of the Supreme Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, Muthanna al-Samaraie, Hoshyar Zebari, Khamis al-Khanjar, Ammar al-Hakim, as well as numerous ambassadors and consuls general from various countries. Scholars, academics, researchers, and prominent public figures were among the distinguished guests in attendance.

Key Messages on Constitutional Implementation and National Priorities

On the opening day, President Masoud Barzani delivered a significant address stressing the urgent need to fully implement the Iraqi Constitution. He underscored the importance of safeguarding the principles of genuine partnership, balance, and consensus as foundational pillars of Iraq’s governance.

President Barzani highlighted several key priorities for Iraq’s next government, including:

Establishing the Federal Council

Implementing Article 140

Forming the Federal Court on a constitutional basis

Passing the Oil and Gas Law

Advancing several other essential legislative initiatives

President Nechirvan Barzani also participated in the conference, shedding light on several critical issues related to stability, governance, and regional cooperation.

Addresses by Senior Iraqi and Regional Figures

Today’s program featured speeches by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani, the President of the Judicial Council Faiq Zaidan, Ammar al-Hakim, Khamis al-Khanjar, Muthanna al-Samaraie, and former Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu.

Focus on Peace, Security, and Regional Cooperation

Throughout the panels and discussions, experts and policymakers presented a wide range of studies, insights, and proposals aimed at strengthening security, enhancing stability, and promoting peaceful coexistence in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader Middle East.

Many participants expressed profound appreciation for the efforts and achievements of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), noting that its initiatives have played an essential role in advancing development and reinforcing long-term peace and security across the region.

Looking Ahead to the Final Day

The second and final day of the conference will take place tomorrow, where Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is scheduled to deliver the keynote address alongside several important panel sessions.
