Massoud Barzani President of Kurdistan received a British delegation led by General Tom Pickett the Special Envoy of the British Secretary, military adviser for the Middle East and a number of political and military advisors at a meeting which focused on the political developments and areas of mutual interest. The Kurdistan region's president praised Britain's military and humanitarian aid while expressing optimism that the two sides can collaborate further.
Gen. Pickett said his country admires the Kurdistan region for having accommodated - despite the hard financial and economic crisis which it faces - a large number of displaced people who have fled from the grip of terrorism. He expressed his country's readiness to continue to provide military and humanitarian aid to the region. He added that Britain will continue to supply aid to the region.
The two sides discussed the advancements of Kurdish Peshmerga forces, where the British delegation commended Mr Barzani’s role of leading the troops scoring a number of victories against the Islamic State terrorist organisation, and for their role in protecting all citizens from various ethnic and religious backgrounds.
Regarding the large number of displaced people who have taken refuge in Kurdistan, President Barzani hoped that the international community will raise the level of its assistance to this vulnerable population.
Security and political situation in the region and the future of Iraq after ISIS were other themes discussed by the two sides during the meeting
