A delegation from the Japan-Kurdish Friendship Association consisting of Chairman Kinoshita Akinobu and Director of Board Hiro Nishina, were received at the Foreign Relations Office (FRO) by Hemin Hawrami for talks on bilateral relations and areas of mutual interest.
The Head of Kurdistan Democratic Party’s FRO, Mr Hawrami, welcomed the delegates and began by highlighting the significant importance of diplomatic ties between the two sides and emphasised cooperation between the Kurdish and Japanese people.
He stressed that the KDP will support the development of these relations and build relationships in the areas of social, cultural and economy.
In another aspect of the meeting, Mr Hawrami briefed the delegation on a range of other issues including the current political and security situation in Kurdistan, touching on various subjects including the potential referendum on Kurdish independence and President Massoud Barzani’s meeting with with other political parties to resolve domestic problems.
The Japanese delegates expressed their admiration for the KDP in handling many of the major issues facing the Kurdistan region, such as the current economic hardship, the war against terrorism adhering to democratic principles during this arduous time, while adding that Japan is committed to enhancing diplomatic relations with Kurdistan
