President Barzani's message at International Conference on Peace and Democratic Society in Istanbul.

Saturday, December 6, 2025, Ms Amina Zakri, member of the Political Bureau of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, read President Barzani’s message regarding the new peace process in Turkey and Northern Kurdistan at the International Conference on Peace and Democratic Society in Istanbul.

Text of President Barzani’s speech:

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Esteemed co-chairs of the DEM Party, honored members and participants of the International Conference on Peace and Democratic Society, distinguished guests: good day and warm greetings to you all.

First, I extend my sincere thanks and congratulations to the organizers of this conference. I hope that its outcomes and recommendations will advance the peace process and address the challenges and needs of this new era.

Our region—and indeed the world—are passing through a sensitive moment. All signs point to a new beginning that may be fraught with obstacles or may bring fresh opportunities for peace, security, dignity, and prosperity for the peoples of the region.

All parties must learn from the mistakes of the past and face present challenges with renewed resolve, a clear vision, and steadfast hope.

Dialogue and mutual understanding are always preferable to war and discord; through dialogue and peace, humanity benefits.

I warmly congratulate the Government of Turkey, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Mr. Abdullah Öcalan, and all those who have helped open this opportunity for negotiation and reconciliation.

As for me, I support every effort that advances the peace process and strengthens brotherhood and coexistence among the peoples of our region.

I wish you every success. May you remain in health and well-being.
