French Defence Minister reiterates that his country will continue to provide military support for Peshmerga to combat terrorism

President Barzani met French Defence Minister Jean-Yuves Le Drian and his delegation. They emphasised on the current situation in the Kurdistan Region and rising tensions in Iraq. Mr Le Drian reiterated that his country will continue to provide military support for Peshmerga to combat terrorism.

The French Minister praised the role of Peshmerga in defeating extremists and underlined the Peshmerga’s success in liberating Sinjar city in northern Iraq. Mr Barzani reflected on the Kurdish referendum, the current situation on the front lines, and the financial crisis in the Region. Mosul liberation and bilateral relations between Paris and Erbil were discussed in addition.
